Rinaldi Hits First Collegiate Home Run In Baseball’s Doubleheader Split With Nyack

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman right fielder Matt Rinaldi (Eastchester, N.Y.) recorded his first collegiate home run in the second outing of Friday afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader, with junior second baseman Kendell Luquis (New Rochelle, N.Y.) chipping in three hits with as many runs scored in the Concordia College New York baseball team's 13-6 victory over Nyack College after the Warriors took the opener 11-3 with junior first baseman Joseph Impeduglia (Staten Island, N.Y.) hitting his seventh home run of the season in the first game.

NOTES
• Concordia moves to 11-26, 6-16 in CACC play.

• Nyack moves to 14-21-1, 10-12 in league action.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 1)
• Impeduglia went 1-3 with a home run, two RBI and one walk.

• Junior RHP Patrick Rivera (Elmont, N.Y.) tossed a career-high 7.2 innings with three runs allowed off six hits.

• Senior RHP Raymond Rosado (Brooklyn, N.Y.) got the start, allowing eight runs with six earned off 10 hits in 1.1 innings.

• For Nyack, Yoni Rodriguez went 4-5 with a home run and two run scored while Alex Petterson went 3-4 with a home run, three runs scored, two RBI and one walk. Matthew Threatt got the start, allowing two runs off four hits in 6.0 innings while AJ Vasquez allowed one run over the final three innings for the save.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
• Nyack used back-to-back doubles from Petterson and David Gauthier in the top of the first to score Austin Fischer and Petterson before two-out singles from Matthew Johnson and Brandon Rivera platted Gauthier and Johnson with a Clippers' error sending Gabriel Vasquez home to create a 5-0 score.

• The Warriors capitalized on a Concordia error in the top of the second to plate Rodriguez while a Petterson home run and Herman Alavardo base hit with Gautheir on base scored two more runs to take an 8-0 advantage.

• Rodriguez opened the top of the sixth with a home run to boast a 9-0 lead.

• Reaching base with a leadoff double, Rinaldi scored off an Impeduglia home run to make it 9-2.

• Leading off the bottom of the seventh with a base on balls, junior left fielder Nick Vlahakis (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored off a Luquis sacrifice fly to cut into the deficit at 9-3.

• Nyack added a pair of insurance runs to its lead in the top of the ninth off an Alvarado double and Johnson single to create the final score.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 1)
• Concordia recorded five hits while the Warriors had 16.

• The Clippers left six runners on base, Nyack stranded seven.

• Concordia committed three errors, Nyack had two.

• Nyack stole six bases.

• Luquis went 3-4 with one walk.

• Rinaldi went 2-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI.

• Impeduglia went 2-3 with three runs scored and one RBI.

• Sophomore designated hitter Hermes Abreu (Bayshore, N.Y.) went 2-3 with three RBI, one run scored and one walk.

• Junior RHP Enrico Locascio (Staten Island, N.Y.) allowed five runs with two earned off six hits in 5.0 innings for the win.

• Junior RHP Connor Stapleton (Staten Island, N.Y.) allowed one run over the final two frames for his fourth save of the season.

• For Nyack, Gauthier went 2-3 with two runs scored, one RBI and one walk. Colton Zellmer tossed a team-high 3.0 innings with seven runs allowed off four hits with seven walks.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
• Leading off the top of the first with a double, Rodriguez scored off a Concordia error before doubles from Peterson and Johnson platted Gauthier and Peterson to take an early 3-0 lead.

• Leading off the bottom of the first with a single, Luquis scored off a senior shortstop Tyler Epple (Levittown, N.Y.) sacrifice fly before a sophomore left fielder Jake Partridge (Bardonia, N.Y.)  single sent Impeduglia home to make it 3-2.

• Opening the top of the third with a single, Gauthier scored on a sacrifice fly from Rivera to take a 4-2 advantage.

• Reaching base with a leadoff single in the bottom of the third, Luquis rounded the bases off a Rinaldi homer before a two-out double from Abreu sent Impeduglia and senior center fielder Andre Jackson (Massapequa, N.Y.) home to propel Concordia to a 6-4 edge.

• Back-to-back base hits to start the top of the fifth from Fischer and Gauthier platted Fischer to make it 6-5.

• Concordia took advantage of four walks and a bases-loaded hit by pitch with sacrifice flies from Partridge and senior third baseman Andrew Medina (Brentwood, N.Y.) plus a two-out single from catcher Denny DeLos Santos (Queens, N.Y.) to score seven runs and create a 13-5 lead.

• Nyack cut into the deficit in the top of the seventh with a two-out single from Alvarado to send Fischer home.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 2)
• Concordia recorded 12 hits, the Warriors tallied seven.

• The Clippers left six runners on base, Nyack stranded seven.

• Concordia committed three errors, Nyack had one.

• Concordia stole one base, Nyack stole three.
