Baseball Upended In Doubleheader At Nyack

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Junior designated hitter Joseph Impeduglia (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit his sixth home run of the season in the second outing of Wednesday afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader, with senior third baseman Andrew Medina (Brentwood, N.Y.), sophomore catcher Hermes Abreu (Bayshore, N.Y.) and freshman left fielder Matt Rinaldi (Eastchester, N.Y.) all chipping in multi-hit outings in the Concordia College New York baseball team's 13-4, 6-5 twin-bill setback at Nyack College.

NOTES
• Concordia falls to 10-25, 5-15 in CACC play.

• Nyack improves to 13-20-1, 9-11 in league action.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 1)
• Rinaldi went 2-5 with two RBI and one run scored.

• Junior second baseman Kendell Luquis (New Rochelle, N.Y.) went 1-4 with two runs scored.

• Abreu went 2-4 with one RBI

• Junior RHP Michael Romano (Yonkers, N.Y.) got the start, allowing five runs with four earned off six hits in 5.2 innings.

• For Nyack, Herman Alvarado went 4-5 with six RBI and one run scored. David Gauthier tossed a complete game for Nyack, allowing four runs with one earned off eight hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
• Leading off the top of the third with a single, Luquis rounded the bases off an Abreu single to give Concordia a 1-0 lead.

• Back-to-back base hits with two outs in the bottom of the fourth scored Gauthier to even the score at 1-1.

• Concordia took advantage of a Nyack error with two outs in the top of the fifth to plate Rinaldi and take a 2-1 advantage

• A double and triple back-to-back with two outs in the bottom of the sixth scored Alec Peterson, with a pair of Clippers' errors allowing four additional runs to score to create a 6-2 Nyack lead.

• Reaching base on an error to start the bottom of the seventh, Gauthier and Austin Fisher rounded the bases off a two-out double from Alvarado to make it 8-2.

• Loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the eighth, back-to-back singles platted three runs before a base hit after the Warriors reloaded the bases added two more scores to create a 13-2 lead.

• Concordia loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the ninth, platting Luquis and senior pinch hitter John Calabrese (Lodi, N.J.) off a single from Rinaldi to create the final score.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 1)
• Concordia recorded eight hits while the Warriors had 14.

• The Clippers left eight runners on base, Nyack stranded nine.

• Concordia committed four errors, Nyack had two.

• Nyack stole two bases.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 2)
• Impeduglia went 2-2 with a home run, three runs scored, three RBI and two walks.

• Medina went 2-4 with one RBI.

• Senior RHP Jack Wall (Levittown, N.Y.) was credited with the loss after allowing six runs with two earned off nine hits in 5.1 innings.

• For Nyack, Alvarado went 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Seth Crummer received the win after holding Concordia off the scoreboard for 2.0 innings with Chase Morris tossing a scoreless seventh for the save.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
• Reaching base on a one-out walk in the top of the first, Rinaldi touch home plate off an Impeduglia single before a Medina single scored Impeduglia to propel Concordia to a 2-0 lead.

• Leading off the bottom of the first with a single, Yoni Rodriguez scored off an Alvarado single before a Petterson base hit platted Alvarado with a Concordia error sending two Warriors home to create a 4-2 score.

• Opening the bottom of the second with a single, Jeremiah Alonzo rounded the bases off a two-out single from Alvarado to take a 5-2 advantage.

• Reaching base with a one-out double in the top of the third, senior shortstop Tyle Epple (Levittown, N.Y.) scored off a home run from Impeduglia to make it 5-4.

• Concordia loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fifth, using a junior center fielder Nick Vlahakis (Oceanside, N.Y.) grounder to plate Impeduglia and even the score at 5-all.

• Reaching base on an error with one out in the bottom of the sixth, Gauthier sent Alvarado home off a double to give the host a 6-5 lead.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 2)
• Concordia recorded seven hits, the Warriors tallied 10.

• The Clippers left seven runners on base, Nyack stranded three.

• Both sides committed three error.

• Nyack stole two.

The baseball team hosts Nyack College on Friday, April 12 with first pitch for the conference doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m.
