PALM BEACH, Fla. – Highlighted by a 10-run frame and four student-athletes recording multiple hits, the Concordia College New York baseball team used a strong start on Monday evening against Queens College (N.Y.) to defeat the Knights, 18-8.
NOTES
• Concordia improves to 1-6.
• Queens falls to 2-1-1.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior shortstop Tyler Epple (Levittown, N.Y.) went 3-4 at the plate with three runs scored and one RBI.
• Freshman right fielder Matt Rinaldi (Eastchester, N.Y.) went 2-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.
• Junior designated hitter/pitcher Joseph Impeduglia (Staten Island) went 1-3 with three runs scored, three RBI and two walks.
• Catcher Josh Corredor (St. Cloud, N.Y.) went 1-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
• Sophomore second baseman Blake Burgan went 2-5 with three RBI and one run scored.
• Sophomore first baseman Hermes Abreu (Bayshore, N.Y.) went 2-4 with two RBI.
• Senior RHP Jack Wall (Levittown, N.Y.) got the start, allowing two unearned runs in 3.0 innings with two strikeouts and two walks.
• For Queens, Scotti Anthony went 2-5 with two runs scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Queens got on the scoreboard in the opening frame, scoring a pair of runs off a failed pick off to take an early 2-0 lead.
• Concordia capitalized on a pair of early Queens' errors in the bottom of the first to score senior center fielder Andre Jackson (Massapeaqua, N.Y.), while back-to-back walks for Corredor and Abreu scored sophomore left fielder Jake Partridge (Bardonia, N.Y.) and a Rinaldi sacrifice fly scored Impeduglia to give the Clippers a 3-2 lead.
• The Clippers exploded for 10 runs in the second inning to create a 13-2 lead, featuring a three RBI double from Impeduglia that scored Jackson, Partridge and Epple.
• Reaching base with a single, Rinaldi added to the lead off a two-out triple from Burgan to make it 14-2.
• Concordia loaded the bases in the fourth inning with no outs via an error, single and walk, with a Corredor double scoring Epple and Partridge while an Abreu single and Rinaldi ground out platted Impeduglia and Corredor to extend the separation to 18-2.
• Queens cut into the separation in the fifth inning, leading the frame with a Scotti single and scoring the Knight off an O'Rourke single while a Roubal double scored Strauss and a Font single platted O'Rourke to make it 18-5.
• The Knights made it 18-6 in the sixth inning off a two-out double from O'Rourke that sent Antos home.
• Queens added two more runs to its total in the eighth inning, with O'Rourke and Roubal touching home plate off singles from Linsalato and Gurleber.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Concordia tallied 13 hits while the Knights had 10.
• The Clippers left 10 runners on base, Queens stranded 14.
• Concordia committed four error while Queens committed three.
