Concordia Baseball’s Davide and Lawrence Named to NCBWA All-East Region Second Team

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has announced their 2018 All-East Region Teams and individual honors on Thursday morning. Concordia College seniors Joseph Davide (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and Dylan Lawrence (Queens, N.Y.) have been named to the NCBWA All-East Region Second Team.

Davide was named to the second team in the catcher position as he was recognized as the second-best catcher in the region according to the NCBWA. He was also recently honored as a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Conference First Team selection, being voted as the top catcher in the conference this season. Behind the plate he would catch 22 runners attempting to steal a base, most in the league, and held a .979 fielding percentage. Offensively Joseph hit .360, 12th-best in the CACC, while holding a .484 on-base percentage, 6th-best in the league. A patient batter, he would draw 26 walks, 10th-most in the conference, and was hit-by-pitch 11 times, 3rd-most in the CACC. His 54 hits were 16th-best in the league as he recorded 31 runs, 17 RBIs, and 10 doubles. Davide was also named to the 2017 CACC All-Conference Second Team.

Lawrence was named to the second team in the starting pitcher position as he was recognized as one of the top-six starting pitchers in the region according to the NCBWA. He was named the CACC Pitcher of the Year while also being named to the CACC All-Conference First Team recently. He earned the league's top pitching award after helping lead the Clippers to their first post-season appearance since 2015 as he held a 2.54 ERA, 4th-best in the CACC, and 69 strikeouts, also 4th-best in the league. His six pitching victories this season would lead Concordia and ranked him 5th in the conference as he pitched five complete games, most in the CACC. Dylan pitched 74.1 innings in 12 appearances this season as he faced 286 batters. He was also was a member of the 2016 CACC All-Conference First Team.
