Baseball Takes a 10-2 Win Over Nyack in Split of CACC Doubleheader

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College baseball team hosted Nyack College in an important Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division doubleheader at Clipper Baseball Field on Monday. Concordia managed to take game one, 10-2, but fell in the nightcap, 5-2 in eight innings.

In game one the Clippers scored their first run in the third inning as a single by freshman Jake Partridge (Bardonia, N.Y.) drove in the game's first run. Concordia added two more runs in the fourth as junior Tyler Epple (Levittown, N.Y.) hit his second home run of the season to also drive in sophomore Joseph Impeduglia (Staten Island, N.Y.).

The Warriors scored their first run of the game in the top of the sixth as the Clippers answered back in the home half of the sixth with four runs to lead 7-1. Impeduglia hit his fourth home run of the season to score two runs while junior Andre Jackson (Massapequa, N.Y.) scored on an error and sophomore Nick Vlahakis (Oceanside, N.Y.) recorded an RBI double. Nyack's final run of the game came in the seventh as Concordia scored three insurance runs in the eighth off a bases loaded three-RBI double by Partridge as the Clippers took the 10-2 victory.

Junior Raymond Rosado (Brooklyn, N.Y.) picked up his third pitching win of the season for Concordia as he allowed two earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven batters in 6.0 innings of work. Sophomore Jacob Bannon (Glendale, N.Y.) finished the final 3.0 innings for the save as he allowed two hits and struck out four batters.

Game two saw the Warriors take a 1-0 lead in the second inning as the Clippers would knot the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the third after an RBI single from junior John Calabrese (Lodi, N.J.). Concordia took a 2-1 advantage in the home half of the fourth after Impeduglia scored on an error.

Nyack would tie the game up at 2-2 in the top of the sixth as the two teams would play into extra innings after the scheduled seven innings. The Warriors put the game away for good as they scored three runs in the eighth to take the 5-2 victory against the Clippers.

Senior Dylan Lawrence (Queens, N.Y.) pitched 7.0 innings in the no-decision as he allowed one earned run on seven hits while striking out seven batters. Sophomore Patrick Rivera (Elmont, N.Y.) was charged with the loss as he allowed one earned run on two hits while striking out a batter in an inning.

Concordia (19-21, 15-12 CACC) will visit Felician tomorrow for a lone CACC game in Lyndhurst, N.J. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. as fans unable to attend can follow the action by clicking on the live stats link under the baseball schedule page on ConcordiaClippers.com.
