Baseball Splits with Jefferson on Senior Day

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers baseball team hosted Jefferson University for a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games at Clipper Baseball Field. Concordia would take game one, 5-4, but fell 10-4 in the nightcap.

The day marked Senior Day for the Clippers as Joseph Colon (Bronx, N.Y.), Joseph Davide (West Hempstead, N.Y.), Maurizio Devita (Franklin Square, N.Y.), and Dylan Lawrence (Queens, N.Y.) were all honored for their hard work and dedication to the baseball program during their careers with Concordia.

Game one began with the Rams taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning as the Clippers answered back with a lone run in the home half of the second after junior Andre Jackson (Massapequa, N.Y.) recorded an RBI single. Concordia scored three runs in the third to grab a 4-2 advantage as junior Tyler Epple (Levittown, N.Y.), sophomore Joseph Impeduglia (Staten Island, N.Y.), and Jackson each provided an RBI.

The Clippers scored their fifth and final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh after a RBI double down the left field line for Epple allowed Impeduglia to score from second base. Jefferson threatened in the top of the ninth with a pair of runs, all with two outs, but were unable to force extra innings as Concordia held on for the 5-4 victory.

Lawrence picked up his team-leading sixth win of the season after pitching 8.0 innings allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out five batters. Impeduglia pitched the ninth to earn the save as he allowed two earned runs on two hits and struck out two batters.

In the second game the Rams scored three runs in both the first and second innings to hold a 6-0 advantage. The Clippers scored a lone run in the fourth as sophomore Denny DeLos Santos (Queens, N.Y.) provided an RBI single to right-center field. Jefferson would score three more runs in the sixth as the visitors led 9-1.

The bottom of seventh had Concordia score two runs with freshman Jake Partridge (Bardonia, N.Y.) and Davide recording RBIs to cut the Clippers' deficit to 9-3. The Rams added their final run in the eighth as Concordia's final run came in their last at-bats off a RBI from Impeduglia, but Jefferson took the 10-4 win.

Junior John Wall (Levittown, N.Y.) pitched 2.0 innings in the loss for the Clippers as he allowed five earned runs on four hits while striking out two batters. The bullpen for Concordia pitched the final 7.0 innings allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out six batters.
