Clippers Baseball Upended at Caldwell in CACC Action, 4-0 and 2-1

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Concordia Clippers baseball team traveled to Caldwell University on Tuesday for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division doubleheader against the Cougars. Concordia was unable to come away with a road win as Caldwell took 4-0 and 2-1 wins.

In the first game the Clippers were held scoreless as their first hit came in the fourth inning. Concordia was unable to get a base runner past second base in the game as the Clippers were limited to nine hits. The Cougars scored their runs in the third, fifth, and seventh innings to take the 4-0 victory.

Junior John Wall (Levittown, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss for Concordia as he allowed four earned runs on nine hits while striking out four batters in 7.0 innings of work. Sophomore Patrick Rivera (Elmont, N.Y.) pitched the final inning for the Clippers as he allowed two hits and struck out one batter.

Game two saw Caldwell score the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning as Concordia answered back in the top of the second. Sophomore Kendell Luquis (New Rochelle, N.Y.) provided a RBI ground to bring in sophomore Peter Lawless (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) from third base to knot the score at 1-1.

The next three innings would go scoreless for both sides as the Cougars managed to score the go-ahead run in the home half of the sixth. The Clippers were unable to bring home a run in their final at-bats as Caldwell took the 2-1 victory.

Sophomore Joseph Impeduglia (Staten Island, N.Y.) pitched 5.1 innings for Concordia in the loss as he allowed one earned run on three hits while striking out five batters. Senior Maurizio Devita (Franklin Square, N.Y.) recorded the final two outs for the Clippers in the sixth inning as he allowed a hit.

Concordia (14-17, 10-8 CACC) will be on the road again tomorrow to visit Nyack College in a CACC North Division doubleheader.
