Baseball Falls in CACC Doubleheader to Goldey-Beacom

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers baseball team fell in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader, 10-4 and 12-5, on Tuesday at Clipper Baseball Field.

Game one saw the Lighting score a lone run in the top of the third, then add two more runs in the fourth inning to lead 3-0. Goldey-Beacom would extend their lead to 6-0 in the sixth as Concordia would get on the scoreboard in the home half of the inning. Junior Tyler Epple (Levittown, N.Y.) recorded a two-RBI single to right field and sophomore Joseph Impeduglia (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a RBI double as the Clippers cut their deficit in half, 6-3.

The Lightning responded with three more runs in the seventh as senior Joseph Davide (West Hempstead, N.Y.) would drive in a run for Concordia in the bottom of the seventh. The visitors managed to score one more run in the eighth to take the 10-4 win.

Sophomore Michael Romano (Yonkers, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss for the Clippers as he allowed six earned runs on nine hits while striking out two batters in 6.0 innings of work. The bullpen completed the final 3.0 innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits and struck out two batters.

In the second game Goldey-Beacom would jump out to a 5-0 advantage as Concordia broke their scoreless drought with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sophomore Nick Vlahakis (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Impeduglia would both record RBI singles as the Clippers trailed 5-2.

The Lightning would add four runs to their total in the seventh as Concordia answered back with three runs in the home half of the seventh. Impeduglia would drive in two more runs off his double and Epple would bring in a run on his groundout as the Clippers trailed 9-5. Goldey-Beacom scored three more runs in the top of the ninth before the umpires called the game due to darkness with two outs in the inning as the Lightning took the 12-5 win.

Sophomore Enrico Locaseio (Staten Island, N.Y.) allowed five earned runs on three hits in 4.0 innings in the loss for Concordia as the bullpen pitched 4.2 innings allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits and struck out six batters.

The Clippers (9-14, 5-5 CACC) will host Caldwell University tomorrow afternoon for a CACC North Division doubleheader at Clipper Baseball Field.
