Concordia Baseball Splits CACC North Division Showdown with Dominican (N.Y.)

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College baseball team split their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division doubleheader against Dominican (N.Y.) College at Clipper Baseball Field on Sunday. The Clippers took game one, 5-1, but the Chargers took game two, 11-4.

Concordia would score a lone run in the home half of the first inning to lead 1-0 as freshman Hermes Abreu (Bayshore, N.Y.) recorded a RBI to drive in junior John Calabrese (Lodi, N.J.). The Clippers would add four more runs in the second inning as freshman Jake Partridge (Bardonia, N.Y.), junior Tyler Epple (Levittown, N.Y.), Abreu, and Calabrese all recorded RBI's to put Concordia ahead 5-0. Dominican's only run would come in the sixth inning as the Clippers took the 5-1 victory. Senior Dylan Lawrence (Queens, N.Y.) pitched the complete game for Concordia in the win as he allowed one unearned run on four hits while striking out 13 batters.

Game two saw the Chargers get on the scoreboard first with a lone run in the top of the first as the Clippers answered back in the home half of the inning as Abreu hit a solo home run to center field. Both teams added another run to their total in the fourth inning as Partridge's single through the left side of the infield would drive in and junior Andre Jackson (Massapequa, N.Y.) to keep the game tied at 2-2.

The top of the fifth saw Dominican score six runs, including a grand slam, as the visitors now led 8-2. Concordia scored their final two runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth with sophomore Joseph Impeduglia (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Jackson recording RBI's in the inning. The Chargers added three insurance runs in the sixth inning as Dominican took an 11-4 win.

Junior John Wall (Levittown, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss for the Clippers as he allowed seven earned runs on eight hits while striking out two batters in 4.2 innings of work. The bullpen finished the final 2.1 innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits and struck out two batters.

Concordia (9-12, 5-3 CACC) is scheduled to host Goldey-Beacom College for a CACC doubleheader at Clipper Baseball Field on Tuesday afternoon.
