Baseball Upended at Mercy, 10-3

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Concordia College baseball team visited nearby Mercy College on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference game against the Mavericks. The Clippers were unable to come away with the road win as Mercy took a 10-3 victory at Mercy Field.

Concordia struck first in the top of the first inning as a sacrifice fly from freshman Blake Burgan (Holbrook, N.Y.) brought in freshman Jake Partridge (Bardonia, N.Y.) on the play. The Mavericks would knot the score at 1-1 in the home half of the first as the Clippers would score their second run of the game in the third inning off a RBI single from Partridge.

Mercy responded in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs to take a 3-1 advantage. Concordia answered back with a lone run in the fourth off a RBI single from junior John Calabrese (Lodi, N.J.) as the game was tied at 3-3 after four innings.

The Mavericks would score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth as Mercy would score four runs overall in the inning. Three more runs were added to their total in the seventh as the Mavericks led 10-3. The Clippers were unable to score any more runs as Mercy took the 10-3 win.

Junior Raymond Rosado (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pitched 5.1 innings for Concordia in the loss as he allowed five earned runs on six hits while striking out four batters. Sophomore Michael Romano (Yonkers, N.Y.) allowed four earned runs on three hits while striking out one batter in 1.0 innings as sophomore Patrick Rivera (Elmont, N.Y.) completed the final 1.2 innings allowing only two hits as he struck out a batter.

The Clippers (4-9) will next visit Chestnut Hill College on Sunday afternoon for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader against the Griffins. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
