Concordia Baseball Edges Bentley, 6-5

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Concordia Clippers baseball team battled Bentley University on Thursday afternoon at the Alfond Stadium on the campus of Rollins College. Concordia would snap their three-game losing streak with a 6-5 victory against the Falcons.

Bentley would score in their first at-bats to take a 1-0 advantage as the Clippers responded in the home half of the inning with RBI's by senior Joseph Davide (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and junior Andre Jackson (Massapequa, N.Y.). The Falcons would knot the score at 2-2 in the second inning of the tightly contested game.

The bottom of the fourth would be a big inning for Concordia as the Clippers scored four runs to lead 6-2. Junior Andrew Medina (Brentwood, N.Y.) recorded a triple and would score after a sacrifice fly from sophomore Kendell Luquis (New Rochelle, N.Y.). Freshman Blake Burgan (Holbrook, N.Y.) drove in a pair of runs later on in the inning while Jackson's bases loaded single provided the fourth run of the inning for Concordia.

Neither team was able to score any runs in the fifth nor sixth innings as Bentley used a three-run seventh to get within a run, 6-5. The Clippers' bullpen would keep the Falcons at bay as senior Dylan Lawrence (Queens, N.Y.) picked up his second save of the season after a one-two-three ninth inning to give Concordia the 6-5 win.

Sophomore Michael Romano (Yonkers, N.Y.) earned his first collegiate victory as he pitched 6.2 innings allowing three earned runs on five hits while striking out a pair of batters. Sophomore Joseph Impeduglia (Staten Island, N.Y.) pitched 1.1 innings for the Clippers as he sat down all four batters he would face.

Concordia (4-6) will play in two games tomorrow as the Clippers will take on Assumption at 11 a.m. and Rollins at 3 p.m. Fans can follow the action back at Alfond Stadium by accessing the live stats links under the baseball schedule page on ConcordiaClippers.com.
