Clippers Baseball Drops a Pair of Games at Nyack in CACC Action

POMONA, N.Y. - The Concordia Clippers baseball team took on Nyack College on Thursday afternoon for a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games at Palisades Credit Union Park. Concordia was unable to come away with a win on the day as the Warriors captured 7-1 and 4-2 wins.

The Clippers would have last at-bats in both games as Nyack would jump out to a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning. Concordia would get on the scoreboard in the inning as a two-out RBI single to right field for freshman Eric Roubal (Patchogue, N.Y.) cut the deficit to 4-1. The Clippers were unable to score again in the game as three more runs for the Warriors would allow Nyack to take a 7-1 victory.

Concordia recorded only five hits in the game as junior Maurizio Devita (Franklin Square, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss after allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out five batters in 5.0 innings of work. The bullpen completed the final 4.0 innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits and striking out five batters.

Game two saw the Clippers score first in the home half of the first inning. Sophomore Jaylin Martinez (Paramus, N.J.) would score on a fielder's choice by junior Joseph Davide (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and later in the inning sophomore Tyler Epple (Levittown, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch to give Concordia the 2-0 lead.

The Warriors would score a lone run in the fourth to cut their deficit in half, but a three-run fifth inning for Nyack would put the Warriors ahead 4-2. The Clippers would go hit-less after the second inning as Nyack held on for the 4-2 win.

Junior Peter Byrnes (Smithtown, N.Y.) pitched 4.2 innings for Concordia in the defeat as he allowed three earned runs on eight hits while striking out four batters. Sophomore John Wall (Levittown, N.Y.) completed the final 2.1 innings as he struck out two batters and allowed only one hit for the Clippers.

Concordia (3-26, 2-14 CACC) will be on the road on Saturday to take on Goldey-Beacom College for the first time ever in a CACC doubleheader.
