Baseball Upended by CACC Foe Nyack in Doubleheader

NYACK, N.Y. - The Concordia Clippers baseball team visited Nyack College for a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games on Saturday afternoon. Concordia was unable to come away with a win on the day as the Warriors took both games, 5-2 and 3-2.

In the first game Nyack took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as the Clippers would tie the score in the third off a RBI double by freshman Tyler Epple (Levittown, N.Y.). The Warriors regained the lead in the home half of the third with a solo home run as Concordia responded with a run of their own to knot the score at 2-2 as junior Giorgio Palmiero's (Carmel, N.Y.) RBI single brought in junior German Dilone (Bronx, N.Y.).

Nyack would score a pair of go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth and then added an insurance run in the seventh to hold the 5-2 advantage. The Clippers were unable to score again as the Warriors held on for the 5-2 victory.

Sophomore Dylan Lawrence (Queens, N.Y.) was credited with the loss for Concordia as he allowed three earned runs on seven hits while striking out four batters in 5.2 innings of work. Sophomore Peter Byrnes (Smithtown, N.Y.) finished the last 2.1 innings for the Clippers as he allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out three batters.

Game two saw Nyack score the opening run in the bottom of the second off a sacrifice fly. Concordia would knot the score at 1-1 in the fourth as a bases loaded sacrifice fly for junior Jason Reyes (Bronx, N.Y.) allowed senior Brian Bilello (Lynbrook, N.Y.) to score. The Warriors grabbed the go-ahead run in the fifth and added another run in the seventh to hold a 3-1 advantage.

The Clippers would look to mount a comeback and in the eight senior Vincent Capone-Froio (Yonkers, N.Y.) took advantage of a wild pitch to score the second run of the game for Concordia. The Clippers were unable to score again as Nyack held on for the 3-2 win.

Junior Thomas Burke (Huntington, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss for Concordia after 6.2 innings of work as he allowed three earned runs on nine hits while striking out seven batters. Junior Doug Elser (Hopewell Jct., N.Y.) finished the last 1.1 innings for the Clippers as he allowed just one hit.

Concordia (9-19, 6-6 CACC) will be on the road again Sunday afternoon to visit the University of the Sciences. First pitch of game one of the CACC doubleheader in Philadelphia, Pa. is set for 12 p.m. as fans unable to attend can follow the action by accessing the live audio link under the baseball schedule page on ConcordiaClippers.com.
