Clippers Fall at St. Rose, 4-3, in Non-Conference Action

Albany, NY – The Concordia College baseball team traveled to face non-conference opponent the St. Rose Golden Knights on Monday afternoon. After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead the Clippers allowed four unanswered runs as the Golden Knights won 4-3 for their 10th victory of the season.

The Clippers began the afternoon jumping out to an early lead in the first inning. Luis Gonzalez (Carmel, NY) hit an RBI single to left field which scored Jason Berrios (Brooklyn, NY) from third base. Chris Rutigliano (Wantagh, NY) added the second run for Concordia in the next at-bat with an RBI double to left-center field. In the top of the third the Clippers added another run to their total with a sacrifice ground out by Erik Poldroo (New York, NY) to drive in Berrios from third.

St. Rose began their comeback in the bottom of the fourth with three runs in the inning to tie the game. The Golden Knights scored the go-ahead run in the fifth off an RBI double down the left field line.

Concordia recorded only three hits in the final four innings as they could not bring home another run. Christopher Rodriguez (Queens, NY) pitched 6.0 innings in the loss for the Clippers as he allowed three earned runs on nine hits. Anthony Barone (New Rochelle, NY) and Andrew Worth (Brewster, NY) closed out the final two innings allowing a combined two hits while facing eight batters.

Concordia (6-26, 4-6 CACC) will get back to their conference schedule on Wednesday afternoon. The Clippers will be on the road for a doubleheader against Chestnut Hill College at 1pm.
