Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College baseball team battled the Molloy College Lions on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at Clipper Baseball Field. Concordia dropped both games, 5-4 and 9-2, for their sixth loss in past seven games.
The Lions jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead in the opening game. The Clippers tied the game in the bottom of the second off a solo home run by David Perlleshi (Eastchester, NY). Molloy added a run in the fourth off an RBI double to regain the lead, 2-1.
In the top of the fifth, the Lions added three runs in successive at-bats to open up a four run lead. In the home half of the fifth, Concordia struck back with a two-run home run by Joe Gallub (Oceanside, NY). The Clippers added a solo home run in the next inning off the bat of Chris Rutigliano (Wantagh, NY) to trail 4-5.
Concordia threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded and two outs but was unable to drive in the game tying run as Molloy held on for the victory.
Christopher Motta (Bronx, NY) pitched 4.0 innings in the no decision as he allowed two earned runs on eight hits. Samuel Gaitan (Queens, NY) was tagged with the loss in his 2.0 innings of work allowing two earned runs on three hits.
In the second game, Concordia would be the first to score off an RBI single by Cristian Fiorito (Yonkers, NY) which drove in Jason Berrios (Brooklyn, NY) from second base. The Lions would take control of the game in the top of the second with seven runs in the inning to take a 7-1 lead.
The Clippers scored one more run in the bottom of the sixth off a Luis Gonzalez (Carmel, NY) single. The home team was unable to score any more runs as they recorded only three hits in the game.
Anthony Pisano (Clarkstown, NY) received the loss in 3.0 innings of work as he allowed seven runs on seven hits. Salvatore Minichino (Howard Beach, NY) and Chris Peña (Bronx, NY) closed out the final 4.0 innings allowing a combined two earned runs on three hits.
Concordia (6-25, 4-6 CACC) will next be on the road on Monday afternoon. The Clippers will travel to Albany, NY to battle non-conference opponent the College of Saint Rose at 2pm. Fans unable to attend the game can follow via the Live Stats link on ConcordiaClippers.com.
