Concordia Splits Doubleheader against USciences

Philadelphia, PA – The Concordia College baseball team battled Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent the University of the Sciences on Sunday afternoon. After falling in game one to the Devils, 11-1, the Clippers responded with a 9-4 victory to split their regular season series.

In game one, Concordia's Luis Gonzalez (Carmel, NY) got the team on the scoreboard with a single through the right side in the early going. The Devils responded in the home half of the first with a sacrifice fly to right field.

In the bottom of the third, USciences took a 6-1 lead off a bases clearing triple and two more runs in the end of the third. The Clippers could not respond as the Devils added more runs to win 11-1, their sixth win of the season.

Game two favored Concordia as the offense came alive. The Clippers scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead. USciences would grab their first lead of the game, 3-2, in the bottom of the third.

After the Devils added another run in the fourth, Concordia scored three runs in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. Joe Gallub (Oceanside, NY) hit an RBI double to begin the scoring in the inning as Gonzalez's double would drive in another run. Chris Rutigliano (Wantagh, NY) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score the go ahead run. The Clippers kept USciences off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game and added four insurance runs in the ninth inning to win 9-4.

Anthony Pisano (Clarkstown, NY) pitched 7.0 innings for his third win of the season. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits while striking out four batters. Ted Robertson (Mount Vernon, NY) came in to relieve Pisano for the remainder 2.0 innings as he was credited with the save.

Concordia (6-21, 4-6 CACC) will take a break from their conference schedule and play a doubleheader at Franklin Pierce University on Thursday afternoon. Game one will get underway at 2pm in Rindge, NH.
