Concordia Wins Third Straight Game after Doubleheader Victories over Philadelphia, 10-8 and 7-2

Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College baseball team battled Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Philadelphia University on Saturday afternoon. Fresh off a win yesterday, the Clippers continued their success on the field with 10-8 and 7-2 victories.

The Rams got the scoring going in the top of the second inning of game one with five runs which all came with two outs. Concordia responded in the home half of the inning with five runs of their own. Mike Manganiello (Levittown, NY) and Yonatan Rodriguez (Tarrytown, NY) hit RBI singles to begin the scoring. Jason Berrios (Brooklyn, NY) followed with a two RBI double and then Joe Gallub (Oceanside, NY) hit a sacrifice to bring in the Clippers' fifth run.

Philadelphia scored two more runs in their next at-bats to take a 7-5 lead while Concordia got a run back in the bottom of the fourth as Cristian Fiorito (Yonkers, NY) drove in Berrios with a double down the left field line. In the top of the sixth the Rams added another run as the score now favored the away team, 8-6.

The Clippers' bats would catch on fire late in the game as the team put together another come from behind victory. In the eighth inning Manganiello hit a home run to left field on the first pitch he saw. Later in the inning, Chris Rutigliano (Wantagh, NY) drove in a run and Luis Gonzalez (Carmel, NY) drove in two RBI's to give Concordia a 10-8 lead to secure the victory.

Christopher Motta (Bronx, NY) pitched 7.1 innings in the no decision as he allowed six earned runs on eight hits while striking out six batters. Ted Robertson (Mount Vernon, NY) came in to finish the game and was credited with his first win of the season.

In game two, both teams scored a run in the first inning as it was a pitcher's duel through the first four. In the bottom of the fifth the Clippers would bring home four runs to take a 5-1 lead. Erik Poldroo (New York, NY) began with a two RBI single up the middle of the infield and Luis Gonzalez followed with an RBI single to left field. The fourth run came off the bat of Rutigliano's fielder's choice which scored Poldroo form third base.

The Rams added one more run to their total in the top of the sixth but it would be all they could scrap together. Concordia added two insurance runs in the seventh off a David Perlleshi (Eastchester, NY) RBI single and a bases loaded walk by Yonatan Rodriguez.

Anthony Pisano (Clarkstown, NY) picked up his second win of the season as he went 8.0 innings allowing one earned run on eight hits as he struck out six batters.

Concordia (5-19, 3-4 CACC) will have a few days off until their next game. The Clippers will host Dominican College on Wednesday afternoon for their second and final regular season meeting. First pitch at Clipper Baseball Field is set for 3pm.
