Skillman, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its final NCAA Division II regional and national rankings for the 2013-14 season. The men’s program remained the No. 4th-ranked team in the nation while the women improved to a program-best 21st overall in the nation and 2nd in the East Region.
Junior Juuso Ojanen (Varkaus, Finland) remained stable with his No. 4 singles ranking in the nation for the men while senior Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) improved to 7th for singles. The Clippers and West Florida are the only two men’s programs in the country to have two players ranked in the top-10 within the singles ranking. Junior Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) would make an appearance on the national rankings as well as he is now the 44th ranked singles player in Division II. For the doubles pairings, the duo of Piludu and Majauskas slipped one spot and are now the 5th-ranked pairing in the nation.
On the regional level Ojanen, Piludu, and Majauskas remained in the top-3 positions in singles while junior Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) jumped one spot to 6th. Both sophomore’s Ofir Ginat (Raa’nana, Israel) and Rafael Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) remained in their respective ranking positions as Ginat is 15th and Ferreira is 20th. The doubles rankings in the East Region would also remain static as Piludu and Majauskas remained 1st while senior Ricardo Frey (Curitiba, Brazil) and Ferreira are 3rd.
For the women at the national level, the 21st team ranking is the best in program history as freshman Costanza Mecchi (Rome, Italy) is ranked 31st in singles and junior Romana Tabak (Bratislava, Slovakia) is 40th. The duo also earned a 14th ranking in doubles as they improved two positions from their previous ranking.
In the East Region the program remains 2nd overall as rival NYIT holds the top ranking. Within the singles rankings Mecchi and Tabak remain as the top-2 singles players while junior Linda Eliasson (Gothenburg, Sweden) is now the 15th-ranked singles player in the region. The doubles rankings have Mecchi/Tabak remaining as the top duo.
