Final ITA Rankings Released; Men Remain No. 6 in D-II, Women Now 37th

Skillman, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its final NCAA Division II regional and national rankings for the 2012-13 season on Wednesday night. The men’s program remained the No. 6th-ranked team in the nation while the women dropped two spots to finish the season as the No. 37th-ranked team.

The men’s squad recently concluded their season with a trip to the NCAA Division II National Semifinals match, their fourth such appearance in five seasons. Concordia placed two single’s players in the top-15 of the national rankings, one of only four programs in the country to accomplish this feat at the D-II level.

Senior Andrey Boldarev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) concluded his collegiate career ranked 10th in the nation while junior Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) secured the 12th-ranked singles position. The duo is also ranked 6th in the doubles rankings in the nation.

The Clippers also have a second doubles team in the national rankings. Sophomores Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) and Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) secured the 21st-ranked position as Concordia is also one of four teams to have two doubles teams in the national rankings.

Within the NCAA Division II East Region the Clippers remain the top program and have positions 1-6 within singles and positions 1-3 in doubles. Boldarev, Piludu, and Olfans grabbed the top-three spots in the singles rankings while senior David Tisserand (Lyon, France), Majauskas, and senior Andreas Lindell (Helsingborg, Sweden) round out the remaining positions. Sophomore Juuso Ojanen (Varkaus, Finland) claimed the ninth position in singles within the region as no other program region has more than one player ranked in the top-10 in the East Region. In doubles, Boldarev/Piludu are the No. 1 ranked duo in the East Region followed by Majauskas/Olfans and then Tisserand/Lindell.

On the women’s side Concordia ended their season with a defeat in the East Region Championship match against rival Queens College (N.Y.). The program is currently ranked No. 37 in NCAA Division II and No. 3 in the East Region.

Sophomore Linda Eliasson (Gothenburg, Sweden) is now the 5th-ranked singles player in the East Region while freshman Luisa Candido (Boca Raton, Fla.) occupies the 16th position and senior Yuliya Plevako (Astana, Kazakhstan) is 17th. In doubles the duo of Candido and Plevako are the 2nd-ranked pair in the region.
